Charlie Taylor came on as a substitute at half time last week at Sheffield United with the Clarets already 3-0 down and his performance in a very different second half has won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

1718 burnley charlie taylor 01 500x500Taylor has made just two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season. He came on against Everton just before they had a player sent off and he was straight on at the start of the second half at Bramall Lane when the performance could never have been as poor as we’d seen in the first half which meant he wasn’t judged on that first half showing.

He won 63% of the man of the match vote and he was the only player to even reach double figures. That left Nick Pope, Ashley Westwood and Jack Cork to claim the next three places. They had seven, six and five percent of the vote respectively.

Taylor’s performance was rightly judged no more than just above average in the player ratings where he scored 6.09 out of 10, but that was way ahead of the rest. Pope was again second; his score of 5.03 meant he was the only other player to reach the score for below average. Robbie Brady, who came on during the second half, was  third with a rating of 4.41 while just behind him was James Tarkowski who scored 4.38 out of 10 to finish fourth.

That result has given Taylor the maximum ten points, his first points of the season. Pope picks up six points while there are two points each for Brady and Westwood with both Cork and Tarkowski winning one point. With Tarkowski way ahead at the top of the Up the Clarets Player of the Year Table and Ben Mee a safe second, the only change has seen Pope move ahead of Dwight McNeil, Jeff Hendrick and Chris Wood into third place.

The next vote will start tomorrow after the West Ham game. The Sheffield United result and the current player of the year table are below.
