James Tarkowski was the last player on the pitch to play the ball, not surprisingly a header out of defence, before Jon Moss blew his final whistle on our first win at Goodison Park since January 1976.

It wasn’t just the pundits hailing his performance; Up the Clarets have agreed with them with Tarkowski winning both the man of the match vote and the player ratings very comfortably despite there being outstanding individual performances in all areas of the pitch.

He won 58% of the vote for the man of the match ahead of left-back Stephen Ward who received 16% after another excellent showing on the left. Jack Cork, who again an himself into the ground from the central midfield area, was third with 8% and 5% of the vote gave Mee fourth place.

Those four players were also the top four in the player ratings, and in the same order with all of them rated higher than eight. Tarkowski’s rating was 9.25 out of 10, the highest rating by any player this season. Ward rated at 8.77 with Cork and Mee getting ratings of 8.41 and 8.18 out of 10 respectively.

That result gives Tarkowski ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year, extending his lead at the top, with six points for Ward, Cork winning four points and two points for Mee.

Tarkowski held a narrow two point lead over Cork at the top, but that’s now been extended to eight points with Cork a further nine points ahead of Steven Defour who is currently third.

The next vote will start a week tomorrow after the home game against West Ham. The Everton result and the current player of the year table are below.
