It was a disappointing Saturday evening last week for the Clarets with Danny Ings scoring the only goal in Southampton’s 1-0 win at the Turf, but it was another game in which Charlie Taylor stood out at left-back.

Taylor’s performance won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings and both by some distance on what, otherwise, wasn’t a good night for us in what was our first home league game of the season.

He won the man of the match by some considerable distance, winning a 71% share, and that meant no other player reached double figures. His full back partner Phil Bardsley took second place with just 8% of the vote while third and fourth places were won by Josh Brownhill and Jimmy Dunne who had 5% and 4% of the vote respectively.

Three of those four players were in the same positions in the player ratings with Taylor out on top again by some margin, scoring 7.15 out of 10. Bardsley was again second with a rating of 6.25 and they were the only two players to score above the average of six out of ten. Nick Pope was third, his rating was 5.71 while Dunne came fourth with 5.65 out of 10.

This result has given Taylor the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Bardsley has won six points while all of Brownhill, Dunne and Pope have won two points. And it has taken Taylor to the top of the table as the first month of the season draws to a close.

You still have chance to VOTE for your man of the match against Manchester City, it will close tomorrow night after the Newcastle game.
