The first of our home friendlies ended in a 0-0 draw against Montpellier and it left Sean Dyche pleased in terms of getting his fit players some minutes on the pitch.

“The good side is that all the fit players are getting minutes and the young players are getting involved,” he said. “I was pleased with some of the signs today. The Premier League comes quickly and these games are important.”

He added: “It wasn’t a great game and it wasn’t an amazing performance, but the fitness was good and some of the basics were good.”

Having referred to the fit players getting onto the pitch, and having already spoken about the goalkeepers, he detailed those outfield players who aren’t currently fit. That started with Robbie Brady who came off just before half time. Dyche said: “He’s just come back from injury and it was only a minor thing in his hamstring, so we took him off immediately. He’s been out for a while and we don’t want any second injuries if we can help it, of course. He’s had a long period of recovery and been doing very well.”

He added: “Barnesy has managed to get 65 minutes in today and we’ve had to be careful with him on his way back. Steven Defour is still not quite there yet, so we’re still missing some quality players and we want to get them fit and add to it in the market. We are looking at signing players and if we can get them in that will be helpful as well.”
