We’ve previously brought news of New Zealand Clarets meetings and similarly with the Melbourne Clarets group in Australia but now the two, along with Sydney Clarets, are joining forces and are set to meet on the Aussie side of the Tasman Sea for our game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Dr. Watson’s Bar

Melbourne is the base for this four-day extravaganza with Burnley supporters descending on this city of good Neighbours during Thursday and Friday, 18th and 19th April with the first get together in Dr Watson’s Bar at the Sherlock Holmes Inn on Collins Street during Friday evening from 5:30 p.m. onwards.

This will give the Aussie and New Zealand based fans the first real opportunity to get to know each other with, I assume, the occasional round of drinks throughout the evening.

Saturday morning will give everyone the opportunity to see what Melbourne has to offer which could include Queen Victoria Market, the Royal Botanic Gardens, Ramsay Street and of course the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (the MCG).

Burnley Brewing

Saturday evening will be the big event and the venue is Burnley Brewing on Bridge Road from 5 p.m. I’m told there will be a few beers, dinner, a raffle (so please take some money with you if you are going). Two former Clarets will also be there, two strikers who featured in Jimmy Mullen’s two promotion seasons of 1991/92 and 1993/94. I’m sure there will be a big welcome for Nathan Peel, who played occasionally, scoring two past Peter Shilton in the home win against Plymouth, during the second of those seasons. Joining Nathan will be Mike Conroy who was such a key player in finally helping us get out of the Fourth Division with 24 league goals during that 1991/92 season.

It’s going to be a long evening and at 11 p.m. the group will be moving on to the Imperial Hotel to watch us play Sheffield United, the kick off is at midnight, Melbourne time. I’m sure the lads will give them something to cheer about from Bramall Lane.

Imperial Hotel

After that late night, there will be just time to relax on Sunday morning before everyone heads for home in their respective cities, states and countries.

If you would like to know more about this weekend or about Melbourne Clarets, Sydney Clarets or New Zealand Clarets in general, then please head to our Supporters Club Directory and you will find all their contact details with social media links.

Up the Clarets have built up a good relationship with the groups over recent years. Steve Barnes (Ramsbottom and Melbourne Clarets), and we’ve known each other for far more years than either of us would care to mention, and Martyn Baker (Sydney Clarets) have played a big part in organising this even. Added to them is Tom Greenwood from across the sea (Earby and New Zealand Clarets), and I’ve known Tom for around four years since they were planning their first ever meeting in March 2020.

It’s been a well planned weekend between them and it’s so good to see Burnley supporters like Steve, Martyn and Tom, along with others, supporting their fellow Clarets in arranging events such as this. Now let’s hope they enjoy each other’s company, have a great few days, with maybe one of those rare events to add to it, a Burnley win.
