The mini East Lancs Derby
Having had a week off last week for the international break, our under-18s are back in action tomorrow morning with a league game that’s been a long time coming for us at this level.
Being awarded Category 1 status has seen the team move into the U18 Premier League where tomorrow we will face our closest rivals Blackburn Rovers.
We opened up our season with a win at Stoke but it’s been difficult since with defeats against Wolves, Manchester United and Everton which has seen us end each of the last two games with ten players and certainly the sending off in the Everton game affected the result with us going down 3-2 having led 2-0 at the time of the red card given to Matthew Connolly.
Our goals had been scored by Sam Unwin and Joe McGlynn and McGlynn has said ahead of tomorrow’s game: “All the boys are excited for the game this weekend against Blackburn, you can tell in training, everyone’s working very hard and wants to be in that squad this weekend. We do go into every game with the same mindset, but with it being Blackburn it adds a little bit more fire and desire to get the three points and get one over on them.
“Obviously all the lads were disappointed with the result against Everton, but after watching it back the next day we all saw how well we played and how much we really deserved to win, and that has given us a huge confidence boost, especially because it was against one of the best teams in the league.”
Blackburn have also been beaten by Everton, Blackburn and Wolves. They were beaten 2-1 in each of the first two with Wolves beating them 3-0. Two weeks ago it became four defeats out of four when they were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool.
Kick off tomorrow is at 11 a.m. at the County Ground at Leyland with the game strictly behind closed doors.
