Burnley face Sheffield United at home this Thursday in the League Cup and we then open our Premier League season at Leicester this Sunday with manager Sean Dyche all but ruling out three players with injury.

He’s said this morning that it is unlikely that any of captain Ben Mee, Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes will play in either of the opening two games. Both Mee and Cork last played in the 1-0 win at Crystal Palace at the end June but it was New Year’s Day the last time we saw Barnes who subsequently had hernia surgery.

Dyche reported that Barnes is doing very well and that they want to get some football while they are being cautious with Mee. Cork, however, is going to be a longer situation.
