Leaders Birmingham City won last Friday but lost top spot to Nottingham Forest on the same afternoon while Burnley kept the pressure on the top two with victory against Crewe Alexandra two days ago in the Professional Development League.

Birmingham had gone top in the previous week by courtesy of having scored two more goals than Forest and they came back from a goal behind to beat Hull in their game believing they would still be top of the league. That wasn’t the case; Forest enjoyed a big 6-0 win against bottom team Bolton and have therefore now gone back to the top on goal difference.

Crewe remain fourth despite this latest defeat for them but they are now just one point ahead of three other teams, all of who have at least two games in hand on them.  Leeds might have suffered a heavy cup defeat a couple of weeks ago but they are very much in form in the league and they could go above us if they won both their games in hand. The same applies to Hull and we meet them next Monday.

The games ended last night with the Sheffield derby. The two of them occupy the places directly above Bolton but it was Wednesday’s night at Bramall Lane; they won 1-0 and went above their local rivals.

The top two in the south both strengthened their positions with wins. Watford won at QPR while Coventry beat Colchester, who went bottom with that result. Watford still have a five point lead over Coventry who are now three points ahead of third place Charlton after they could only draw 0-0 at Charlton.

It’s Premier League Cup week this coming week and we’ve got our third game against Blackburn at Ewood Park in two days time although we still have that league game to come at Hull next Monday.

The player featured this week is Mace Goodridge. The midfielder has been back in action recently after a year out with a cruciate ligament injury and he opened the scoring in the win against Crewe his first ever Burnley goal.
