1718 burnley turf moor 01 1000x500Burnley and Huddersfield Town, the bottom two in the north group of the Professional Development League, come face to face this afternoon with the game being played at Turf Moor.

It’s our fifth home league game of the season but the first at our home ground. The first two were switched to Gawthorpe and played behind closed doors with the next two, against Leeds and Sheffield United, played at Curzon Ashton. Today’s game is one of only three scheduled for the Turf all season with the other two to come in late March and mid April.

The last two game have both ended in defeat. We were beaten 6-1 two weeks ago by Sheffield United while last week’s 2-0 reverse at Crewe saw us drop into bottom place. Both us and Huddersfield have eight points from the first ten games but their goal difference is seven better than ours. We both site one point behind Bolton and a further point behind both Leeds and Crewe.

Huddersfield, who are coached by former Oldham striker Frankie Bunn, were also beaten 2-0 last week, Bolton claiming the points. That result was the one that ensured we dropped into bottom place.

Burnley have fielded both Dean Marney and Nahki Wells in recent games and Wells hit a hat trick last Thursday in the Premier League Cup tie against Colchester while Marney had played 82 minutes of the game at Crewe three days earlier.

Marney could feature again today although Wells is less likely to be in the squad. Prior to the Colchester game last week, Sean Dyche said: “Nahki is going to play tonight. He’s at the end of his pre-season, if you like, and he gets another 90 minutes.

“He will be part of the squad for Saturday but he will be part of the team tonight, which is important. The international break is coming up and I still want him to have some down days, like the players get.”

Kick off this afternoon is 2 p.m. The central sections of the Bob Lord Stand are open and admission is free for season ticket holders on production of their card. Otherwise it is £4 adults, £2 concessions.
