When Martin O’Neill named his Republic of Ireland squad for their most recent games against Oman and Serbia he named one Burnley player, namely Stephen Ward, in his squad although by the time that game had been played the number had increased to two following our signing of Jeff Hendrick from Derby County.

Keith Treacy has been the only Burnley player prior to these two to represent them, winning just one cap while a Burnley player, what proved to be his last four his country.

Today, with Hendrick now having played for the Clarets, O’Neill has been able to name both Burnley players in his squad for the next round of internationals with Ireland facing Georgia and Moldova. The Georgia game will be played on Thursday 6th October at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin before they travel to face Moldova at Stadionul Zimbru in Chișinău three days later.

Hendrick, who scored their opener against Serbia, a first goal for his country, has won 27 full international caps while Ward has made 38 appearances and scored three times.

O’Neill has again announced a provisional squad of 33 which includes three goalkeepers, ten defenders, sixteen midfielders and four forwards. He will cup this down to 23 closer to the games.
