Two draws take youths to fourth
Following last week’s matches in the U18 Professional Development League, Burnley have moved up one place to fourth after draws at Sheffield Wednesday and at home against Charlton Athletic.
Sam Layton (pictured) and Tristan Jumeau got the goals in a 2-2 draw last Tuesday at Wednesday and on Saturday it was a late Jordan Cropper penalty that earned us a point against the south group’s in form team Charlton.
At the top of the north group, Leeds lost the opportunity to try and close the gap on Bolton when their game was called off but, in any case, Bolton recorded a big 4-1 win against Cardiff and they now have a four point lead at the top with Nottingham Forest, winners against Millwall, now moving into second place.
Sheffield Wednesday took a hammering against Watford and that enabled us to move ahead of them into fourth place and we sit behind Leeds on goal difference although we’ve now played more games than any of the other teams in the north group.
The recent run, that has seen us fail to win since mid-January, is going to have to be reversed should we wish to get into the league’s top two for the play-offs with the south group at the end of the season.
Bolton are now looking very likely to get into those play-offs whilst Crystal Palace will surely make it from the south. They won at Hull to go seven points clear at the top with Watford, Millwall and Charlton all hoping to claim that second place.
Looking forward, there are a couple of games today and one tomorrow before a full programme this Saturday which sees ten games between teams in the respective leagues with everyone with the south group team at home.
The League Tables will be updated as results are confirmed and can be found along with our Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
