At 3 p.m. tomorrow, Burnley will start the Premier League season at home against Brighton & Hove Albion but by then the under-18s will have played their first game away against Newcastle United.

It’s our second season in the U18 Premier League and it is fair to say we had a decent first season that just faded away at the end when we picked up just two points in the final six games. We ended the season in 9th place but were 5th after a 2-0 home win against tomorrow’s opponents with Joe Smyth-Ferguson (pictured) scoring both goals.

At the time we were 13 points and six places above Newcastle but by the end of the season that had reduced to four points with Newcastle just one place behind us in the table.

Tomorrow is a new season, new players and a clean slate. We’ve added six new players. Goalkeeper Charlie Casper has moved up from the under-16s and has been joined by fellow goalkeeper Harry Moss, defenders Trevon Bryan and Nathan James, midfielder Viktor Gromek and, as of yesterday, striker Joe Westley.

The game at Newcastle last season was played in early November and ended in a 2-1 defeat with Joe McGlynn scoring our goal.

Kick off tomorrow is 1 p.m. with the game being played at the Newcastle United Academy.
