Having been beaten 3-0 at home last Saturday by Millwall in the opening fixture of the season, the under-18s will be looking to get the season really up and running tomorrow with the first away game of the season at Bristol City.

1920 burnley cricky conn-clarke 00 500x500It’s been a difficult time for the team so far. Having beaten Bournemouth comprehensively 3-0 in the first pre-season friendly before losing 3-1 to Everton, we’ve found goals hard to come by. In the CEE Cup in Prague we scored just once in four games, that goal coming from under-16 player Michael Mellon, and we then kicked off the season with the 3-0 loss to Millwall in difficult conditions at Gawthorpe.

Our opponents kicked off their league season with a 0-0 draw at Crewe so, like us, they are searching for their first win and first goal even though they have secured their first point. They are under the charges of former Bristol Rovers left-back Trevor Challis who was sent off playing against us twenty years ago this month in a game where Bristol Rovers beat us 1-0 with a hotly disputed penalty.

Tomorrow will be the first time we’ve played Bristol City away in the U18 Professional Development League with the fixture in the previous two seasons both having been at home. We won 6-2 in the final game of the 2017/18 season with goals from Ethan Kershaw, Michael Fowler(2), Kian Yari(2) and Jordan Cropper while last season we won 1-0 with Cricky Conn-Clarke (pictured) scoring the only goal of the game.

The game kicks off at 11 a.m. and will be played at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.
