Under-18s set for first home game
The under-18s got off to an outstanding start last week with a 3-1 win at Stoke in what was our first ever game in the U18 Premier League and tomorrow we play our first home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves were in mid-table when last season came to an abrupt end. They’d won six and lost six of their fifteen games. They kicked off this season with the most difficult of games, an away fixture against Manchester City, last season’s winners of the North Group, and suffered a 4-1 defeat.
It’s been a difficult start to the season for the academy teams with the players not having been able to train as a full group. Last week they went into the game still not having trained together and that was with some of the new scholars included.
Coach Tony Philliskirk revealed that some of his players should have been with the under-23s but the current restrictions also prevented them leaving their under-18 groups. I would think, with little having changed, that it is likely to be a similar squad for tomorrow’s game.
The game is being played at the LFA County Ground at Leyland, kicking off at 12 noon, but it is strictly behind closed doors as are all our academy games currently.
We will bring you the result tomorrow and will review the weekend fixtures early next week.Follow UpTheClarets:
