Having won our last two games in the Professional Development League, the under-21s have given themselves a great chance of making the end of season play-offs which sees the top two in each of the north and south groups fighting for the overall title.

In the north, Sheffield United are all but there. They have a nineteen point lead at the top of the table ahead of Hull, Wigan and ourselves who are all level on points, although Hull have played a game more than us and Wigan two more.

Today, we travel to Barnsley who find themselves next to bottom in the league, eleven points behind us from one game fewer. While we go into the game on the back of those wins against Hull and Coventry, they have failed to win any of their last three games, albeit two of those were against the top two. Their last win came against Hull five weeks ago.

A win today would give us a double over Barnsley having beaten them 3-0 back in November, on the day after the first team had won by the same score against Blackburn, and this win gave the team a rare Turf Moor appearance.

Of the two teams currently above us on goal difference, Hull play at Peterborough today but Wigan are not in action again until next Monday when they host Hull.

In previous seasons in the Professional Development League, we’ve won once but been beaten twice in this fixture. In the 2017/18 season we won 3-0 with Jordan Cropper on the scoresheet alongside two from Tinashe Chakwana but the following two seasons saw us beaten, 1-0 in 2018/19 and 4-1 in 2019/20 when Rob Harker scored our goal.

Kick off today is 1 p.m. and the game will be played in then main ground at Oakwell with free admission.
