The under-21s are back in league action this afternoon with a trip to bottom of the table Peterborough United.

We were last in action a week last Saturday in the Premier League Cup when we drew 3-3 against Brentford but it was a week earlier when we last played in the league; another draw, this one 1-1 against Fleetwood at Gawthorpe.

It’s our fourth away game of the season in the league with the last two, against Colchester and Wigan both won and we go into the game in fourth place in the north group knowing that a win will move us ahead of Sheffield Wednesday, who are currently third, and within a point of second place Birmingham, still with a game in hand. Any slip could see us drop a place with seventh place Hull hosting Barnsley, who are currently fifth, today.

Our opponents Peterborough are having a difficult season and have lost all seven of their games to date. No team throughout the league has scored less than their seven goals and they’ve also, with 25, conceded the most goals. In those games, they’ve three times conceded four goals, against Watford, Barnsley and Bristol City, and back in August they suffered a big 7-1 loss at home against south group leaders QPR.

This will be the second season we’ve met in the Professional Development League and although we drew with them at home last season, the trip to Peterborough was an unsuccessful one. It came back in November last year with Peterborough running out 4-1 winners with our goal scored by Michael Mellon.

With loans, injuries and players having left, only Will Hugill from our team that day can be expected to be involved today. Our team that day was: Lewis Thomas, Will Hugill, Finn Armstrong, Jack Turner, Brad Grant, Mark Helm (Callum West 78), Wiktor Gromek (Joe Westley 67), Renaldo Torraj, Kade Ratchford (Trevon Bryan 85), Ne-Jai Tucker, Michael Mellon. Subs not used: Harry Moss, Nathan James.

Today’s game is being played at Peterborough’s training ground and kicks off at 1 p.m.
