Under-21s kick off the week against Wigan
The under-21s are back in league action this afternoon with a home game against Wigan Athletic at the County Ground at Leyland.
It’s third against fourth with Wigan currently one place ahead of us with three points more although they have played two more games than us. A win would draw us level although it would take a four goal victory to swing the goal difference in our favour.
A win could also see us draw level with second place Hull should they lose this afternoon at Crewe but we are all a long way behind leaders Sheffield United who currently sit thirteen points clear at the top.
Victory today would also give us the double over the Latics; we won the away game 2-0 with goals from Dara Costelloe and Benn Ward.
It will be the first time we’ve played them at home at this level. We were both in the Professional Development League in the 2019/20 season but having drawn 1-1 at Wigan with a Lewis Richardson goal, the home game was one of those not played after the season was brought to an end in March.
Kick off today at Leyland is 2 p.m.
