Under-23s and under-18s kick off 2022
Last night the under-23s kicked off the year with a 1-1 home draw against Birmingham City and this afternoon the under-18s have followed, beaten 2-1 by Manchester City at City’s Academy Stadium.
The under-23s took the lead last night at Leyland through Dara Costelloe four minutes before half time but a late Jacson Coppack goal left us with just one point.
The teams were;
Burnley: Sam Waller, Connor Roberts (Finlay Armstrong 60), Jake Rooney, Harry Williams, Owen Dodgson, Sean Etaluku (Will Hugill 85), Mark Helm, Jacson Coppack, Ne-Jai Tucker (Kade Ratchford 90+2), Joe McGlynn, Dara Costelloe. Subs not used: Lewis Thomas, Dan Sassi.
Birmingham: Archie Matthews, Joshua Williams, Mitch Roberts, Rico Browne, Renedi Masampu, Remi Walker, Alfie Chang, Kyle Hurst, Oriol Soldevilla, Keke Simmonds (Owen Humphries 60), Colin Oppong (Leo Dos Reis 60). Subs not used: Alfie Brooks, Cianole Nguepissi, Kieran Wakefield.
The under-18s were expected to get the new year underway last Saturday with a home game against Manchester City but the two forthcoming fixtures against them were reversed with the away game being played this afternoon.
City won it 2-1. Kian Breckin gave them the lead at the start of the second half and William Dickson made it 2-0 seven minutes from the end before Ruairi Behan scored a late consolation for the young Clarets.
