1920 burnley steve stone 00 500x500Despite being unbeaten in the Professional Development League after seven games, the under-23s travel to Sheffield United this afternoon as the fifth placed club in the league with the three directly above us all having games in hand.

Five draws from those games, most of them which should really have been wins, mean we are on catch up although, right now, we are only one point behind Wigan in second place.

Today, we put our unbeaten run to the test against a Sheffield United team who are currently four points behind us with just two wins and a draw from their opening seven fixtures. They opened the season with a win at Cardiff but then suffered four successive defeats. More recently they’ve won another four points from their last two games, beating Bristol City 2-0 at home and drawing at Birmingham 1-1 in their last game.

This fixture in the previous two seasons has been played at Bracken Moor, home of Stocksbridge Park Steels where Sheffield Wednesday are now playing their under-23 games. Two seasons ago we were beaten 1-0 but last season we won 3-1 with Dwight McNeil scoring the first goal and Dan Agyei getting the other two goals.

Most of their home games now are played at Chesterfield but today it’s at Bramall Lane with kick off at 1 p.m.
