stalybridge 1000x500While we wait to see the first team in action, or half of it, at either Crewe or Port Vale, the under-23s, having already played one game in Poland, kick off their domestic pre-season tonight at Bower Fold, home of Stalybridge Celtic.

It’s the second successive season we’ve played there and tonight’s game comes exactly a year since a 3-0 win opened up their pre-season. Rob Harker, who scored last Saturday in Poland, netted the first that night before Ntumba Massanka made it 2-0 with just nine minutes gone. Massanka is no longer with the club and that’s also the case with Tinashe Chakwana who scored the third in the second half.

It’s a first pre-season for Steve Stone as under-23 coach and this is the first of three successive Wednesday evenings when we will be playing away games in the North West. Next week sees us go to Bamber Bridge and a week later it is Curzon Ashton, but tonight it’s Northern Premier League club Stalybridge Celtic and it will be a familiar place for one of our squad Scott Wilson who spent time there last season on loan.

Five of the under-18s travelled to Poland and they could be involved again while there are currently two new players to see, full backs Joel Senior and Ryan Cooney who signed yesterday.

Kick off tonight is 7:45 p.m. and admission is £6 adults, £3 concessions.
