1718 burnley james clarke 00 500x500It’s a second game of the week again for the under-23 as we follow up Monday’s 3-3 draw against Huddersfield at Turf Moor with a trip to the West Midlands for a fixture against Birmingham City this afternoon.

We come up against a Birmingham team who are currently right in the middle of the eleven team northern group in sixth place while we will be looking to lift ourselves off the bottom having only picked up two points from the last four games.

Birmingham did win their last game a week ago today; they beat Leeds 3-1, but had lost their two previous games. Last Monday they also had a surprise 3-1 win against Middlesbrough in the Premier League Cup so they go into today’s game in good form.

As for us, it is very likely to be a young side again and with Harry Flowers expected to remain out of the reckoning after suffering an injury eight days ago in our Premier League Cup win against Colchester, it will be another opportunity for James Clarke (pictured) to play alongside his team mate from the youth team Oliver Younger.

Dwight McNeil, another who is stepping up from the youth team, has been receiving some positive words from coach Michael Duff. He’s likely to play again but Mark Howarth could be a doubt after coming off early in Monday’s draw with Huddersfield.

Our team in that game was: Aidan Stone, Arlen Birch, James Clarke, Oliver Younger, Ali Koiki, Tunde Bayode, Dean Marney, Mark Howarth, Tinashe Chakwana, Dwight McNeil, Harry Limb.

Today’s game is being played at Birmingham’s Wast Hills Training Ground and kick off is 1 p.m.
