With earlier games being played, we had dropped to sixth in the table by the time we kicked off but we are back in the play-off positions after drawing 2-2 this afternoon against Norwich having trailed 2-0 at half time.

Norwich had offered very little in the first half hour but then scored twice in the space of five minutes. Richard Nartey was caught on the left hand side of our defence and that allowed Norwich to get the ball into the box for Abu Kamara to score.

That should have been no more than an equaliser with Lewis Richardson (pictured) having had a goal strangely disallowed when it seemed two Norwich players had clashed with each other only for the referee to give a free kick against Richardson.

The Burnley captain came close again, hitting the bar but from that we conceded a second. Norwich keeper Joe Rose kicked the ball long, it beat our defence and allowed Matthew Dennis to run on and make it 2-0.

We were by far the better side in the second half but it didn’t look as though we were going to get back into it, but we did. With just over a quarter of an hour remaining Richardson got the goal he deserved. Following a dropped ball on the left, he touched a Ne-Jai Tucker against the post and was quick to get onto the rebound to head it home.

We really pushed for an equaliser and it came seven minutes from time when Richardson hit the post with a shot following a low Anthony Glennon ball in from the left. Norwich couldn’t get the ball away and eventually half time substitute Dara Costelloe picked up the ball on the left hand side of the box to score the equaliser and his first Burnley goal.

We needed a third but Norwich probably held the advantage during the remaining time which included six minutes of stoppage time.

A defeat would have been so unfair on us, particularly given the second half performance when Richardson, Anthony Gomez Mancini, Anthony Glennon and Costelloe stood out.

We are going to need a win this Friday at Reading to keep our play-off hopes alive.

As a footnote, Up the Clarets believe the trialist at right back was West Brom’s Harry Williams.
