It’s the Premier League Cup again tonight for the under-23s as we play our third group game in this year’s competition against West Bromwich Albion.

1819 burnley tinashe chakwana 00 500x500The fixtures have dictated that we’ll play all our three away games first and this is the third of them having taken a 7-1 hammering against a very strong Bournemouth side before drawing 1-1 at Liverpool a couple of weeks ago with Tinashe Chakwana (pictured) scoring our goal.

It’s left us bottom of Group C. Bournemouth lead it with a maximum six points having followed up the win against us with a 2-1 win against West Brom who are second with three points. Liverpool, previously beaten by West Brom, and us both have one point with Liverpool some way ahead of us on goal difference.

West Brom have a category one academy and, as such, play in Premier League 2. They are currently in 11th place in the 12 team second division with 10 point from 11 games having won twice, those wins coming at home against Stoke and at Fulham in successive games in October.

We, meanwhile, go into the game on a good run. We’ve won five and drawn two of our last seven league games and, by all accounts, were very unfortunate not to win at Birmingham last Saturday.

Tonight’s game will provide us with a very stern test for a side eager to do well in this competition having gone out of the Checkatrade Trophy.

“It’s a game that we’re looking forward to and hopefully we can get a victory,” said Baggies’ under-23 coach Jamie Smith. He added: “They lost 7-1 to Bournemouth away from home, but looking at the rest of their fixtures that was definitely a freak result. Looking at their league position they’re doing really well in that, and they drew with Liverpool in their last PL Cup games so it’ll be a tough game for us.”

The game will be played at Keys Park, home of Hednesford Town. Kick off tonight is 7 p.m. and admission is priced at £5 adults and £1 concessions.
