The under-23s are in action this afternoon at Curzon Ashton against Barnsley in the Professional Development League and a win against the bottom team would take us to a guaranteed third place in the table.

1718 burnley olatunde bayode 00 500x500We go into the game having picked up ten points from the last four games with wins against Crewe and both Sheffield clubs and a terrific point from a 2-2 draw at Leeds. We’ve now won six of our first eleven games.

It’s been a terrific start to the season for what is a very young team who have recently benefited from having such as Steven Defour, Robbie Brady and Ben Gibson involved as they made comebacks from injuries. Today, however, it will be a young team who face Barnsley and two of those young players are currently leading the way in the league’s goalscoring chart; Dan Agyei has netted eight league goals this season with Tinashe Chakwana just one behind.

Last season’s home game against them, also played in November, ended in a 1-0 win for us and brought to an end a run of five games without a win. It was a very young team out that night too with Tunde Bayode (pictured) scoring the only goal of the game. Only five of that starting eleven are available to us today with four having now left the club and two others currently out on loan.

We lined up: Aidan Stone, Arlen Birch, James Clarke, Scott Wilson, Ali Koiki, Tunde Bayode, Jamie Thomas, Christian N’Guessan, Rahis Nabi, Tinashe Chakwana, Harry Limb. Subs: Connor King, Oliver Younger, Kian Yari, Tristan Jumeau, Tommy Wood.

Kick off today at Curzon Ashton is 2 p.m.
