There has been little action in the Professional Development League in the last week with only two games and only one northern group club involved.

1920 burnley joel mumbongo 01 400x400That one club was Crewe who were at home against Millwall last Monday. A draw would have seen them pull level with us on points while a win would have taken them to the top of the league, but Millwall won it 2-0 to leave us second and Crewe third.

That win has taken Millwall into second place in the south group; they’ve moved ahead of Coventry on goal difference.

The rest of the games were in the Premier League Cup and we’ve stayed second in Group G with that remarkable 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace which we followed that up with victory in the Lancashire Senior Cup against AFC Fylde. That’s two points from two games so far with Middlesbrough and Palace both on one point. Blackburn, our next opponents, lead the group with six points having recorded a second 3-1 win, this one against Middlesbrough.

With no league game against in this coming week, we could slip down the table. Hull face leaders Nottingham Forest today and a win would take them ahead of us and Barnsley could do likewise if they win at Leeds, who are reeling from a 7-1 cup hammering, on Monday. Crewe will also get another opportunity to go above us with a home game against Birmingham, also on Monday. Our next game is against Crewe at Curzon Ashton but that is a week on Monday.

The player featured is Joel Mumbongo who scored his first Burnley goal earlier this week in the win against Fylde.
