Up for the cup at Gawthorpe
It’s a second game this week for the under-23s today who, having drawn 1-1 against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday at Curzon Ashton, now switch attention to the Premier League Cup and the home game with Crystal Palace which is now being played at Gawthorpe after the Bamber Bridge pitch failed a fitness test this morning.
It’s our second group game in the competition. We drew 1-1 at Bishop Auckland against Middlesbrough on Sunday, 6th October, with our goal scored by central defender Scott Wilson, while our opponents lost their opening game at home against Blackburn later in the month.
This is the clash between the two category 2 teams in Group G but we haven’t met as yet this season and won’t until the final game when we play them at home at the end of April. Two seasons ago, our first ever Professional Development League game was against them, a game we lost 2-0 while last season, goals from Dan Agyei and Tunde Bayode (pictured) gave us a 2-1 home win against them.
The top two from the group will go through to the knock out, something we achieved last season, winning a group that also included Bournemouth, Liverpool and West Brom. We then went on to beat Leicester before going out to Leeds in the quarter-final.
Kick off time today is still to be confirmed.Share this page :
