Burnley would have been sat in third place in Premier League 2 Division 2 today had we beaten West Brom last Monday but we fell to a 2-1 defeat against a very experienced Baggies team which left us where we started the week in seventh place.

The result was guaranteed to move West Brom up one place in the table. They knew they would go ahead of the losers in the north east derby between Newcastle and Sunderland. As it happened, that game ended in a draw which saw West Brom go ahead of both of them on goal difference.

It was a second game in the week for Newcastle who had made the slightly longer trip to Middlesbrough last Friday where they were beaten 2-1 and on the same day Norwich won at Reading while Leeds recorded a 2-0 win at Wolves. That result kept Wolves in third place, four points behind Stoke, but Leeds are now 13 points clear at the top of the league although they have played two games more than Stoke.

In Division 1, the top two both had a good day on Monday. Blackburn won 5-1 against Southampton and Manchester City went one better beating West Ham 5-0 which included a hat trick from Cole Palmer. That keeps the gap between them at five points with City having played a game more.

It’s a Friday game for us this week which potentially means the team won’t be quite as experienced with some of the players being required for the first team and to add to that we will be without Richard Nartey who is serving a one match ban having been sent off at West Brom four days ago.

The player featured this week is striker Rob Harker who had mysteriously disappeared recently. We got news this week; he’s been out with a knee injury since November. His last appearance was in the home game against Villa when we twice came from behind to draw 2-2.

Today’s game will be played at their Bodymoor Heath Training Ground with a 1.30 p.m. kick off.
