1617 burnley tommy wood 00 300x500The weekend fixtures kicked off in the Youth Alliance League with Walsall and Accrington separated at the top of the league on goal difference with Bury in third place just one point behind, but it’s Walsall who have opened up a two point lead, winning 2-0 win at Bury while Accrington dropped points in a draw at Preston.

What a turn round this season, that we expected Accrington to go to Preston and win. For many years, North End were one of the strongest teams in the league but that’s not the case now. They are still without a win this season and are off the bottom only because of Wrexham’s wretched start.

Accrington went into the game as the only unbeaten side in the league and remain so and will expect to get back to winning ways this coming weekend with a home game against bottom team Wrexham.

Further down the league, we knew we would drop a place. Without a game, we saw the two teams directly below us, Carlisle and Rochdale, come face to face last Friday and it was Rochdale who came out on top to go a point above us. That leaves us in seventh place and we can only drop one further place this weekend which would require Carlisle, away at leaders Walsall, to get a better result than we do in our home game against Blackpool.

Apart from the league games played, the group stage of the Youth Alliance Cup was completed last midweek with Fleetwood beating Tranmere although neither have gone through from Group 7, finishing second and third behind group winners Wigan.

All last week’s results are below along with this week’s fixtures, Burnley’s goalscorers this season and the current league table.

The League Table is updated as results come in and can always be found along with Burnley’s Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu as can .
