Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday shared the lead at the top of the Professional Development League before the last set of fixtures but they brought a win for Bolton and defeat for Wednesday with Bolton now going three points clear at the top of the league.

1718 burnley jamie thomas 00 500x500Both played on Monday and whilst Wednesday were losing 3-0 at home against Nottingham Forest, Bolton beat Huddersfield 2-1 with Connor Hall, the league’s leading goalscorer, netting the first of them.

Besides now being three points ahead of Wednesday, they hold a seven point lead over the next two, Forest and Sheffield United, but Forest maybe the ones to watch, they currently have three games in hand on the top two.

With our game off, we have now played less games than any of the other teams with Leeds having played 20, that’s five more than us, the most of any teams. With our game against Crewe called off, our next opportunity to try and close the gap at the bottom will come on Monday when we travel to Huddersfield, a team currently third from the bottom.

Down south, Crystal Palace’s lead at the top is now up to two points. They kicked off with a one point advantage over Coventry but Palace won at Watford yesterday afternoon with Coventry, surprisingly, losing their home game against Cardiff. That’s allowed Ipswich, big winners against Millwall, to move into second place.

There’s a full set of fixtures this week with an extra game on Thursday which means Sheffield United will play twice. Like the youth league, they will play local rivals Wednesday this week, that game is next Monday.

The player featured this week is Jamie Thomas.
