1819 burnley stephen ward 00 500x500Stoke City blew the cobwebs off the transfer window yesterday with five signings as they returned for pre-season training, but the Stoke Sentinel this morning are reporting that signing number six could be Stephen Ward who left the Clarets at the end of last season.

Manager Nathan Jones has indicated to the Potteries media that he would like to bring in two new left-backs, a decision that will see the departure of Erik Pieters who was on loan during the second half of last season at Amiens.

Ward has arrived at the Stoke training ground today with the Sentinel reporting that Ward is close to being signing number six.

He left us after five years and you can read my thoughts on his Turf Moor star in Farewell to Wardy which I wrote last month following the confirmation of his release.

If he completes the deal, he’ll be the second Burnley player to join Stoke in 2019 following Sam Vokes who signed for them on the last day of the January transfer window.
