Burnley’s long unbeaten run at home came to an end last Saturday against second place Tottenham Hotspur. It was an afternoon where the better performances were in defence, the best of them coming from Stephen Ward at left back.

Ward, back from international duty with the Republic of Ireland, turned in an outstanding performance which has won him both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

He polled 59% of the vote, way ahead of full back partner Matt Lowton who took second place with 11%. The next two places went to Tom Heaton and Ben Mee. Both had 10% of the vote although Heaton pipped Mee to third place by one vote.

Those four also took the top four places in the player ratings with the only change seeing Lowton and Heaton swap places. Ward was the winner with a rating of 7.62 out of 10 while Heaton took second place with 6.83. Lowton was third with a rating of 6.77 and Mee scored 6.63 out of 10 to take fourth place.

The result means ten points for Ward towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with five points to both Heaton and Lowton and Mee collecting two points.

Those points have closed the gap at the top to two points with Mee moving to 114 behind Michael Keane on 116. Heaton is third with 81 points; he’s the only other player now with any chance of catching the two central defenders.

You can still vote for the Stoke game. The Man of the Match Vote will run until the end of today while the Player Ratings also remain open.
