Burnley travel to face Brentford where we will come up against their manager Thomas Frank for a third time having played them twice in the Premier League during the 2021/22 season.

Since they last played, Frank has completed five years as Brentford boss having taken over from Dean Smith who left them for Aston Villa in October 2018.

Speaking today, ahead of the game, Frank said of Burnley: “It was a very impressive promotion campaign last year and they have stepped into the Premier League and tried to do it their way. They have very interesting players going forward. Foster looks very, very interesting.”

He added: “Of course, we would love to win tomorrow in front of our fans. We need a top performance from us, and a top performance from our fans. We need to do it together, to push on. The players need to give something to the fans, and they will give it back. Hopefully it can be a synergy.”

For Vincent Kompany, it’s a first game against Frank and although this is not one of the big elite clubs we are facing, he was quick to point out: “Every game will be tough in the Premier League, but everybody knows when you play Man City and these sort of teams, they have something extra special. Now we get to take the learning from this first period of games and look forward to hopefully being good in all of the games coming up. I’m past the point of reflecting on previous fixtures now, I’m locked in on Brentford. We are expecting a really tough game against a good side.

“We’ve mentioned Forest away, which was a tough game, and Luton away, which is a tough away game. It’s important to be good in those games, but in the end you want to pick up points against the top teams as well. In those games there have been moments that have cost us and that’s where we have to grow to.

“I’ve always said this about the team, I do think there is a balance between being able to have results now, but also making sure that in the future we’re able to get the results against the big teams as well.”
