team 1953-54Earlier this month we published the results, league tables and programme covers for the first four seasons of post-war football, from 1946/47 until 1949/50 and today we move into the 1950s with the next five seasons.

The last five seasons have seen 40 players win league debuts for Burnley but in this five year period there were just 26 of them, some more notable than others. It includes England internationals Billy Elliott, Brian Pilkington and Colin McDonald while the architects of our title at the end of the decade, Jimmy Adamson and Jimmy McIlroy both made their bow in the 1950/51 season, McIlroy at Sunderland and Adamson at Bolton in 1951 with both games ending in 1-1 draws.

If you look at the League Tables section on the top menu, they now run up to 1954/55 with the addition of these five First Division seasons and the Fixtures & Results section carries all the results and goalscorers both for and against us with one exception, a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday in October 1954 and, at this time, we’ve been unable to confirm the Wednesday scorer.

On the desktop version of the site, you can hover on these two sections and then select the season of your choice.

Finally, the Programme pages continue to be added and we are now up to the 1954/55 season with those programmes too which includes some prestigious friendlies including a number against German clubs.
