1516 burnley turf moor 04Things are hopefully changing for the better at Burnley Football Club for our disabled supporters, particularly those who are wheelchair bound and have, for many years, been subjected to the awful conditions with the primitive facilities on offer at Turf Moor.

It was the horrendous weather last December that accelerated things. For successive home games against Preston and Charlton, those supporters out in the open were drenched with both games played in pouring rain.

Demands for change were made via the message board after the second of those games and I promised to add it to the agenda for the next Supporters Liaison Meeting with the club. That was acceptable to some but others wanted more immediate action than the next meeting which was scheduled for February. That led me to email chief exec David Baldwin and a meeting was arranged for the first week in January. Since that initial meeting, dialog has continued with disabled supporters and from that the Disabled Supporters Group has been formed with Peter Biddulph now attending the Burnley FC Supporters Groups meetings on their behalf.

I’ve learned so much in the past few months about the needs of our disabled supporters and the facilities that are required and it is absolutely right that the club are now working with those disabled supporters regards making the much needed improvement to those facilities.

It’s also excellent news that they have formed their own group and Up the Clarets is delighted today to have added them to the Supporters Club Directory which can be found on the top menu.
