We’ll go into the next game having enjoyed tonight
Burnley have beaten Southampton at home and there were contrasting views from the two managers on their respective teams’ performances.
Saints boss Ralph Hasenhüttl was far from happy with his team’s performance and said it was very much a deserved win for Burnley.
He added: “We have been lacking everything from fifteen minutes and then it is simply not good enough. We tried to change the shape a but and we had two good chances from Ché (Adams), didn’t score there.
“Otherwise maybe in the end it is getting tighter. They defended quite well, we had not the quality or braveness with the ball to find the right decision in and around the box. In the end, it was too easy for them to defend us and we haven’t been dangerous enough in their half despite having more possession. It is not good enough.”
“It was good to watch and towards the end of the game they had a couple of little chances, Popey has made an unbelievable save as well, but I’ve said to them that they have to enjoy the game when they win.”
In the Turf Moor dug out for the first time in charge of the first team, he added: “You’re just totally focused on the game, what might happen next and what you might have to do, so your total focus is on that, you’re not really thinking of anything else. Sometimes you can’t enjoy it while you’re in it, only when it finishes, but your concentration and focus takes over.
“I’m just here to prepare the group, I’m working with a great bunch of staff, a great bunch of lads and we’ll go into the next game having enjoyed tonight, but we know we have to take this into Sunday.”
Jackson turned his attention to the players and said of them: “I’ve seen in the last few days how they’ve been and how much it’s meant to them. We keep seeing that spirit and they’ve gone and delivered it, we’re just here to help them. For us, we have to make sure in that Wolves game, we go and deliver, keep the same spirit and same togetherness, and take it into the next game.”
