Having not refereed a Burnley game throughout the 2016/17 season, Roger East is more than making up for it now and this will be the third time he’s been in charge of us in the last five away games.

The first of them was at Liverpool when he had a disappointing game and he followed that up with another performance at Manchester City that fell somewhat short, certainly from a Burnley viewpoint. Now, tonight, he’s in the middle again for a third away game at Bournemouth.

East is 15th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 61.18 out of 100 in 11 previous games which started with a 1-1 draw at Cardiff in the 2010/11 season. The next time we saw him was in Eddie Howe’s last game as Burnley manager at Crystal Palace in October 2012.

For a select group official of over four years, he doesn’t get too many Premier League games. Only two of his first six games this season were at the top level although a run of three successive Premier League games has now taken that total to five from a total of ten games.

There have been two red cards and 41 yellow cards in those games. He had something of a poor game at QPR when he sent off Millwall’s Lee Gregory in September and more recently he dismissed Christopher Schindler in Huddersfield’s 1-0 home win against West Brom.

Of those yellow cards, 16 have gone to home team players with 25 to away team players. That includes four in his last game, the Championship game between Reading and Wolves at the Madejski Stadium a week last Saturday. Reading’s Leandro Bacuna and Joey van den Berg received cards as did both Matt Doherty and Ryan Bennett of Wolves.

The assistant referees are Marc Perry and Sian Massey-Ellis (both West Midlands). The fourth official is Football League referee Simon Hooper (Wiltshire) whose last Burnley game was our 2-0 win this season over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in the League Cup.
