West Ham took all three points from Turf Moor this afternoon with a 2-1 win against Burnley and it was a result that pleased their manager Slaven Bilic.

Speaking after the game, he said: “We wanted to finish positive and I think we deserved to beat them and it’s always nice to win the last game because the result stays. You can’t make it up in a week’s time or whatever, so that’s why I’m really pleased for the guys.

“We deserved to win. We knew that we would have problems when they were playing the ball straight forward, like every other club here, because they are really good in that way with presence and delivery. They were playing balls into the channels or winning good second balls and we knew we were going to struggle, but we coped well with that in the main.

“We tried to match them and we were coming out of the situations in the midfield with Edimilson Fernandes and Manuel Lanzini with the ball at their feet. They bossed the game and were playing very nice football and creating a lot of clear cut chances, switching the play in dangerous areas and crossing well into the box. I’m really pleased with the way we played and it’s good to finish the season with a win.

“I have to praise the referee also before the second goal for playing a double advantage. He didn’t give us a foul two times, he let the ball go and I have to praise him for good refereeing. So, overall, it’s good to finish the season like this.”

Despite the disappointment of defeat on the final day, Burnley boss Sean Dyche was able to reflect on a good season.

“I don’t want to gloss over the game in a throwaway sense, but I thought in the first half the game should have been dead,” he said. “We had three golden chances and you have to take them at this level. We’ve learned that this season, but they got back in it and in the second half I thought they were the better side if I’m honest.

“However, overall, we’ve learned a lot this season. We were given no chance by people on the outside, so what’s been achieved is for everyone to enjoy and we can have a good summer because it’s a real badge of honour for a club this size.

“From when I got here four and a half years ago and the journey we’ve been on, it’s been terrific. We still want to add layers of quality, but I think the fans here can be pleased because they have seen a group give everything for the cause. We are a group who give everything and that’s a really important factor.

“It’s the only thing I ever promised when I got here, in my first press conference. I promised there would be sweat on the shirt and that we’d have a team who always give everything and I’m really proud of that.”
