Whitmore off to Morecambe on loan
Central defender Alex Whitmore has today joined Morecambe in a loan deal until January which will give him his first opportunity to play in the Football League.
Alex, who hails from the North East, spent a lot of time out on loan in the National League last season, firstly with Chester and, for the second half of the season, at Gateshead.
He’s already played on one occasion for Morecambe this season, alongside Dan Agyei, in a friendly against Guiseley, and is expected to be in their squad tonight when they face Preston. He could make his Football League debut a week on Saturday when Morecambe are up against newly promoted Grimsby Town.
Whitmore has been at Burnley for four years. He spent the first two seasons in the youth team before progressing to the development squad and now at 20 will be looking to gain valuable experience with this loan.
Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said: “Alex is a great lad who wants to work hard and do well in the game. He’s played at a good level last season in the Conference Premier and hopefully he can continue his progression with Morecambe Football Club.
“I’d like to thank Burnley Football Club for letting us take Alex on loan and hopefully in the time he’s with us he’ll become a better player.”
It’s excellent news to see another of our younger players going out on loan and Up the Clarets wish Alex the very best at Morecambe for the first half of the 2016/17 season.Share this page :
