A defeat against Leeds had seen the under-18s drop to sixth in the table after the previous round of fixtures, but last Saturday’s 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest has taken us back up into third place.

The opening day 8-3 win at Newcastle is still working in our favour. We are one of six teams on seven points and head that list courtesy of our goal difference, and in a tight league, three more teams are on six points.

Sunderland, one of the teams on six points, and Leeds, currently second with nine points from their games, were also three goal winners; Sunderland beat Derby 3-0 while Leeds were 5-2 winners against Liverpool. Our local rivals Blackburn beat Newcastle and they sit well clear at the top of the league with five wins out of five and averaging four goals per game.

Chelsea kicked off the weekend at the top of the south league but defeat at Leicester cost them first place with Crystal Palace, winners against Southampton, moving ahead of them. Norwich remain bottom of the league without a point. They were beaten 4-0 at Fulham,  but West Brom suffered the biggest defeat last Saturday when they lost 7-1 at Brighton.

There is a full fixture list this coming weekend before the league breaks for the internationals and then, in the following week, the U18 Premier League Cup. Our opponents are Everton who we beat in the cup two weeks ago. They like us are on seven points.

The player featured this week is Dan Sassi who scored our second goal at Forest.
