You seen signs of a good team and consistency
Erik Ten Hag got a 1-0 win for Manchester United on his first visit to Burnley since taking charge and he must have been a relieved man to see his team get this result after three successive defeats.
He said after the game: “This will give them, give us, confidence. But yeah, it’s only one win, and on Tuesday is the next game.
They won it with a Bruno Fernandes goal right on half time. “Oh, it was a brilliant goal and was really lovely play, but I know in other games like Munich, Arsenal, we played very good spells in the game too,” he added. “But then we gave easy goals away. And, as I said, there was a lot against us, like tonight again, like a disallowed goal.
“It’s about winning and I just thought in the last week there was a lot against us. But you have to turn that and it’s only up to us. We knew that and we said that to the team. The team acknowledged it and we have seen the answer on the pitch.”
For Vincent Kompany, it was a case of speaking after another home defeat and he admitted to having mixed emotions. “Hopeful because of the performance and the character but disappointed because of the result,” he said.
“It feels like a week of good performances but maybe not the reward. We could have had a result today. We showed quality and we have to believe that’s what will get us results. It’s a tough start, a tough schedule to start with. We’ll find our moments.”
Having seen us come so close to going in front twice in the opening period of the game, he added: “That’s life at the top level for us. It’s going to be about these moments, but we’re there every single time. We knew it was going to be hard graft and we’re prepared to do that work. You seen signs of a good team and consistency. That’s two good performances and we have to keep going.
“We had tremendous support. On another day the last moment of the game gives us something more and I think the key for me is that we didn’t have to suffer the game. We were in the game and trying to impose our ideas as well, and I think that gives results.
“Saying you want results, I don’t believe in that. Working for results and improving, and getting your habits and your standards right, I believe that gets results and we keep that in this squad.”
