The most recent games played in the U18 Premier League were almost four weeks ago on 19th December last year, but the league gets back underway tomorrow with four games although we won’t be in action.

We were scheduled to play Stoke but any suggestion of a preview this morning was dashed when I looked at the fixtures and saw that it has now been moved to 27th March. Stoke were our first opponents in this league back in September when two goals from Jake Rooney (pictured) and one from Joe McGlynn gave us a 3-1 win.

Moving into the new year I think it is fair to say we’ve started well and we currently seventh having added three more wins. We are some way behind the top teams in the league with, predictably, Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City occupying the top three places. The two Manchester clubs have lost just one game between them and that was when City beat United in October.

For every winner, there’s a loser and there are three teams currently somewhat behind at the bottom of the league. Sunderland, who finally ended a long, long wait for a win are bottom with just four points although they have two and three games in hand on Leeds on Blackburn who are only one point clear of them.

In the south, Fulham lead the way, one point ahead of both Spurs and Aston Villa while poor Leicester remain the only team in either league without a win. They’ve picked up just two points from two draws in eleven games and have conceded almost four goals per game.

There are just four games this week, two in the north and two in the south.
