Burnley face Carlisle United at Gawthorpe this afternoon in the Youth Alliance League. It’s a game that gives the young Clarets an opportunity to move out of the bottom two as we take on a side who currently sit one place above us with just two points more.

It’s only more recently that this game hasn’t been a top of the table clash. Only four years ago we both finished the season in the top four, when we missed out on the title by one point to Preston, and Carlisle were always considered to be one of the stronger teams in the league alongside ourselves.

But this season we’ve won just six games each and only Morecambe sit behind us in the table. We have 20 points from our 20 games while Carlisle, from one game more, are those two points ahead.

The away game in September saw us take a point each from a 2-2 draw with Tommy Wood and Tyler Shrimpton scoring our goals but last season we did the double over the Cumbrians.

We won 2-1 at home with goals from Brad Jackson and Ntumba Massanka and had our biggest win of the season in the away game. We won that 6-0 with Jamal Crawford, Khius Metz and Jackson all scoring before Josh Dolling hit a hat trick.

Kick off this afternoon at Gawthorpe is 2 p.m.
