Having won at Stoke before losing against Wolves, today’s fixture for the under-18s against Manchester United highlights the fact that we are now in the highest league in the country for youth football.

United have been one of the top teams in the country over the years at this level and now we compete in the same league, if not necessarily on a level playing field. Last season they were sixth in the table when the season came to an end.

The opening day win at Stoke came two weeks ago with Jake Rooney scoring twice and Joe McGlynn also netting in a 3-1 win. Last week Ben Woods scored our goal in a 2-1 defeat against Wolves when we played our first ever home game in the U18 Premier League.

Today it’s on the road against for Tony Philliskirk’s team against a United side who have played just one game, kicking off their season with a 2-1 home win against Blackburn. That game was played at their old training ground The Cliff but today’s, which kicks off at 11:30 will be at  their current Carrington training complex.

The Burnley team today is: Sam Waller, Joel Connolly, Dan Sassi, Matthew Carson, Finlay Armstrong, Sam Unwin, Dylan Moonan, Corey Brennan, Will Hugill, Joe McGlynn, Michael Mellon. Subs: Jack Leckie, Jacson Coppack, Sean Etoluku, Kade Ratchford, Rohri Behan.
