Our under-18s will qualify for the knockout round in this season’s U18 Professional Development League Cup with a draw in our final group game needed to confirm a top place finish.

Saturday saw us beat Birmingham 1-0 with a Vernon Masara (pictured) goal and added to the 2-0 win against Bradford City in our first game in the competition back in September.

As things stand, we have six points from our two games with Birmingham on three points. They, like us, have one game remaining. Below us are both Crewe and Bradford City who are both pointless but both have two games remaining.

We play Crewe on Tuesday 12th December with Birmingham travelling to Bradford City on the same day, kicking off three hours after us. The group then concludes eight days later with the outstanding game between Bradford City and Crewe.

Any of the other three could end the group with six points, our current total, so that leaves us just needing that one final point to go through.

Saturday’s win at Gawthorpe saw us play a stronger, more experienced, team than in recent weeks with the inclusion of Joe Ashton, Murray Campbell and Callum West alongside new recruit Brandon Ly.

Masara had only been on the pitch three minutes when he netted with a shot from the edge of the box.

A positive day for the under-18s, the only disappointment coming with the club unable to announce the correct kick off time. At around 10 a.m. they confirmed via social media that kick off was at 11 a.m. and some supporters arrived at Gawthorpe to give the team their backing only to find that kick off was two hours later, Incredibly, the club is still showing it on the official site as a fixture to be played last Saturday at 11 a.m.
