Without a game during the last week, it looked more than possible that the under-18s would drop a few places in the U18 Professional Development League but it proved to be a drop of just one place with Sheffield Wednesday moving ahead of us.

There were five fixtures scheduled for last Saturday in the north group with three more on the Tuesday alongside second place Barnsley taking on south group Cardiff. It didn’t quite work out like that with none of the five Saturday games played. Four of them have been given new dates either this month or in April with the Coventry v Crewe game still to be rearranged.

Moving onto Tuesday, Sheffield Wednesday won their game at Peterborough and there were also wins for Fleetwood and Hull who beat Coventry and Wigan respectively. Barnsley, who are second in the table, also won their game against Cardiff.

The south didn’t fare much better in terms of the games played. Of the five scheduled for last Saturday only two were played giving leaders Bristol City a win against Ipswich and QPR victory over Colchester in the clash between the bottom two.

We’d been moving up the league nicely but having played more games than many of the teams. The teams above us will take some catching now  but we can confirm that we currently sit in fourth place and not fifth as reported elsewhere due to an erroneous 0-0 result having been recorded for that game between Coventry and Crewe.

Barnsley’s win has taken them to within thirteen points of runaway leaders Birmingham in the north but they do have four games in hand. Bristol City have extended their lead at the top in the south to four points over Watford but have now played a game more.

There are games this week over a five day period with eight on the north and five in the south. It all kicks off this afternoon with our visit to Barnsley who we last played back in March last year and earned a point from a 1-1 draw.

The player featured this week is midfielder Sonny Pickup.
