Youths drop to seventh after second blank week
For the second week in succession our under-18s were without a game and we knew that we would be dropping a place in the table given that Derby County and Everton, both of whom we were above on goal difference, were playing each other.
Derby beat Everton 2-1 and duly moved ahead of us although we do have a game in hand but we do have some tough fixtures coming up including two against Manchester City who started the week in second place.
Like us, City could only sit and watch as Liverpool moved above them with a big 6-1 win at Leeds. They now sit two points ahead of City although they have played three games more. Manchester United, meanwhile, remain three points ahead of Liverpool; they were also 6-1 winners, beating Stoke.
There was only one other game in the north division and that saw fourth place Wolves beat bottom of the league Sunderland; they remain two points adrift of Leeds at the bottom.
There were more games played in the south division and it can come as no surprise that we’ve had a change at the top again with Fulham and Crystal Palace again swapping places. Palace had no game but Fulham beat Arsenal 3-1. Both of the top two have four games remaining and both are on 44 points with Fulham top currently virtue of a much better goal difference.
Result of the day belonged to Chelsea who won 7-0 at Aston Villa inflicting only a fourth defeat on Villa.
We are without a game again this weekend but are at home against Liverpool on Tuesday at the Lancashire FA at Leyland.
The player featured this week is first year scholar George Walters who joined the Clarets as an under-16 during the 2019/20 season from Manchester United.
