Youths on the road to Watford
Having won the first three games of the season against Charlton Athletic, Colchester United and Coventry City, the youth team are back on the road tomorrow with an away game against Watford.
Watford is where it all began for us last season in the U18 Professional Development League. We faced them in our first ever fixture in the league and went down to a 4-1 defeat at Gawthorpe with Michael Fowler scoring our goal.
It wasn’t the sort of start we were looking for a year ago but it was the only defeat in the first eight games as the Clarets recovered from a bad result which did not reflect the performance.
Ultimately we had similar seasons. We finished fifth in the north group with 49 points from 30 games while Watford were fourth in the south group having won 47 points from 29 games.
This season it is Burnley who have made the better start with the three wins with Watford having won one, drawn one and lost one.
They were beaten on opening day at Barnsley but have since drawn at home against Sheffield Wednesday before getting their first win a week ago at Sheffield United.
The game tomorrow will be played at University College London Athletic Ground. Kick off is earlier than usual, it is at 10:30 a.m.
