Will Hugill scored the final penalty

Burnley have this afternoon reached the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup having beaten Preston on penalties after the game had ended in a 0-0 draw.

Preston led the way with the spot kicks but failed to convert either of their two penalties, Charlie Casper saving from Slater before Green shot over.  We followed those with both Joe Bauress and Sean Etaluku scoring.

Finally Preston scored with their third through Lewis Leigh with George Walters netting for us to make it 3-1. It went 3-2 with Taylor scoring before Dan Sassi fired over the bar, and then Preston levelled things at 3-3 through Slater with one Burnley penalty to go. Will Hugill scored that to take us through 4-3.

We’d beaten Fleetwood to reach this round and we’ll now join Blackpool and Wigan in the semi-finals, both of whom won 4-1 against Bolton and Morecambe respectively. The fourth semi-final place will go to either Accrington or Rochdale; the date for that quarter final is still to be confirmed.

The teams were;

Preston: Davis, Wallbank, Blanchard, Leigh, Mfuni, Best, Taylor, Khan, Green, Pemberton, Slater. Subs: Barry, Pasiek, Eccleson, Havard.

Burnley: Charlie Casper, Wiktor Gromek (Nathan James ht), Jack Leckie, Dan Sassi, Ashton, Joe Bauress, Kade Ratchford, Will Hugill, Sean Etaluku, George Walters, Kian Le Fondre (Trevon Bryan 45, Ryan Tioffo 78).
