CT-I think we got Keith Newton in his twilight years. He was from memory not quick however he is still the calmest and most polished left back I have seen in a Burnley shirt

Enjoyed reading this article CT. Takes me back to what I saw as the carefree times of my early teens. In the days before internet and wall to wall football coverage I remember eagerly scouring the papers for scorelines from the pre-season friendlies which were only covered in brief. You were lucky to be able to travel to the away games - I remember the MOTD cameras coming to the Turf prior to the Watney Cup game against Bristol Rovers. We were gathered pre-match outside players entrance and met the legendary Barry Davies who was commentating that evening. Happy memories.

Must have been a warm spell.of weather, CT. I went to Lincoln the following week and that was another hot.day. Good to see one of my favourite players from that era, Eric Probert, playing though he must.have left soon after.

Saw KN score a free kick in a brilliant 3-0 win at Villa, Taffy ran rings round them. Probably the same season.
Might be wrong, though.
Certainly saw Eric Probert slam one past Gordon Banks on the Turf, think that was '71 in a 1-1 draw with Stoke.
Think that was our youngest ever side.

Great memories.

Eric was a good player but his problem could be found in a glass sadly. The first of two from that team to lose his life because of alcohol problems.

This series of articles I had intended doing from 2022 but next season’s historical stuff hasn’t been possible because of not being able to get to the library.

Fantastic season ahead. I think I never missed a single home game and just a couple of away games throughout the season. happy memories.

Probably the likes of which we didn’t see again until Dyche’s first promotion season.
