I went with Liverpool away but what a fantastic decision to have to make.

We came away with 4 points from Old Trafford and Anfield! We were the ONLY team to win a single point away at Liverpool.

Proud to be a Claret.

As I said when the original post went up, I can't see this being anything other than a landslide. I watched this on TV in the kitchen and when Jay rifled home that second, my son came in to tell me to calm down as he could hear me from his bedroom. Some feat given the layout and construction of our house. Just watch this and you will see why I made so much noise. And they showed Jay's goal again. And again. And again. Both well deserved wins for the performance and goal of the season.

Far removed from my first visit to Old Trafford with Burnley for a league cup tie in 1984, when we found ourselves a goal down after 18 seconds, despite us kicking off and left on the receiving end of a 4-0 hiding.

Some explanation as to why it was so special for me - here are some of my previous visits

1964/65: 1-0 up, conceded in 84th and 85th minutes and lost 2-1 (FA Cup)
1967/68: 2-0 up, conceded in 86th and 89th minutes and drew 2-2
1969/70: 3-1 up, conceded in 70th and 87th minutes and drew 3-3
1973/74: 3-2 up, conceded in 85th minute and drew 3-3
1974/75: 2-2, conceded in 87th minute and lost 3-2 (League Cup)
1975/76: 1-0 up, conceded in 80th minute and drew 1-1
2017/18: 2-1 up, conceded in 91st minute and drew 2-2
2018/19: 2-0 up, conceded in 87th and 92nd minutes and drew 2-2

I'd had enough of it, year after year getting done with late goals, often very controversial goals too. Worth the wait though.

And given who the ref was for the game in January, even in stoppage time I was expecting a dodgy penalty, 3 minutes added on to added on time and Jon Moss to finish off a flowing move with a diving header.

Given United's upturn in form we might have to wait another few decades before winning at OT again, so it was good we cashed in when they where in a decline, it's also worth noting they haven't lost a league match since that night, clearly the signing of Fernandes has revitalised them, and they may well be a force next season, you'd never have imagined back in 2010 that we'd have home & away victories against United a decade later, so let's enjoy it well it lasts.

And on our last 4 visits to OT we've registered 3 draws and a win, there can't be many away teams who can boost that record at "The Theatre of Dreams"

Now if we can go to the Emirates next season and win, that'll be the icing on the cake. Amazing that Arsenal are still the only big 6 club we've yet to record a PL win against, surely that runs got to end sometime hasn't it.

I'm hopeful for a win at Arsenal next season as we generally have been improving our performances there during this era in the top flight. We are definitely due one there!

67-68 game, I was on the Stretford End just behind the goal and saw Lochead head in a beauty.
68-69 game, I was on Stretford End just behind the goal and saw Waldron head in a beauty, it was own goal though and we lost 2-0.

That 67/68 one particularly sticks in my mind.
We'd lost 4-1 on our last visit, (in fact both our last OT games, I think)
It was near the end & I remember saying to my dad with the old-world wisdom of a 10 yo, that we'd definitely won this time.
Can still remember vividly, the profound disappointment leaving the ground to this day.

me too...with me claret & blue scarf tied round waist (under coat! )

Waldrons header would have been something to behold had it not bulged our net!



also think that was the day Best received 'European-footballer-of-the-year' at half time!

I remember the 69/70 game that CT referred to. I have never seen a professional game so affected by the strength of the wind.
In the second half we were playing towards the Stretford End and it reached the stage where Frank Casper was having to come back to take goal kicks because he was the only p,Ayer who could kick the ball hard enough to reach beyond the penalty area!
